Valentine's Day Mass Wedding at Red Rocks 2016
We had the good fortune to be the photographers for Uncle Nasty's (Gregg Stone) 11th Annual Mass Wedding at the world famous Red Rocks amphitheater in Morrison, CO. Even though the wind was doing its best to blow us all off the top of the amphitheater, the event was a huge success.
Uncle Nasty officiated with his characteristically unorthodox delivery. Around 200 couples enthusiastically recited vows that, well--would not have been found in any church wedding. Some couples got married on Sunday. Most couples were renewing their vows, after being married for periods as short as six months up to as long as 30 years (at least among those we spoke to).
This year's event had a very special guest...local Fox 31 News anchor Shaul Turner was kind enough to accept the role as Maid of Honor, lending an extra touch of elegance to the proceedings. Cupid was also in attendance, and Matt Need (also World Viral TV posse members) provided the introduction after entertaining the crowd with his band You! Need! Swagger!
Many showed up to have portraits taken in our improvised outdoor studio setup. The Cathedral Rock backdrop and combination of natural and our "special sauce" light gave us what was, in some ways, the greatest studio setup any photographer could hope for. We were both helped (hair and veil fan, anyone?) and challenged (hair across eyes, lighting equipment loss threatened, anyone?) by strong, gusty winds. But, hey, we're from Colorado, and like the couples who cheerfully posed in the wind near a dropoff, agreed: Colorado's not for the faint of heart.
Nobody was complaining. They were there to celebrate, make some promises to each other, and savor what the day had to offer.

(photo above) Ok---this is us. Our selfie after everyone else had gone home.
Good times, people!
